Barge 52M, Mountshannon Harbour

Free with wristband

The 52M, a barge restored by the Robertstown Community Amenities Association based in Robertstown, Kildare, retraces journeys of old down the Grand Canal onto the Shannon and down Lough Derg to moor in Mountshannon Harbour for the Mountshannon Arts Festival.

This event is an interactive historical talk led by local historian Noel Murphy and a group from Robertstown who have worked tirelessly to restore the barge. The talk will highlight the historical, commercial and cultural importance of barges in our lakeshore community of Mountshannon and Lough Derg and a discussion with the Robertstown Committee on the restoration project.

This event is supported by the Waterways Ireland Community Heritage Grant Scheme.
