Mike Lewisohn is an artist living and working in Clare, a place close to his heart, where transcendent perspectives may arise within us and inspire us to contemplate the wonder of nature. It is a joy for him to paint in an area covered with such a variety of landscapes and fauna.
Having studied art in London, Copenhagen and later in Limerick at the School of Art, he began as an exhibiting artist in London in 1983. A few years later he moved to Bristol and continued working as an artist and teacher. His move to Clare in 1996 represented a deep need to be immersed in the natural world. He finds its sheer beauty and timeless qualities hugely inspiring. His paintings usually begin at some location that fires his imagination, often a place where key elements converge with his own desire to portray the emotional effect that nature can inspire within us.
