Poetry and Song
We invite you to a soaring session of song and poetry. Choral group the Lough Derg Singers led by Froujke Powell will perform from their repertoire of church music, madrigals, rounds and folk music after which poet Noelle Lynskeywillshare from her highly acclaimed debut poetry release'Featherweight' (Arlen House).

Noelle LynskeyNoelle Lynskey, poet, mother and pharmacist, completed her MA (Creative Writing) in U.L (2022). Selected as Strokestown’s Poet Laureate in 2021, Noelle launched her first poetry collection Featherweight (Arlen House) in May 2025. With multiple awards and readings behind her, Noelle’s work appears in numerous anthologies and on radio and in 2025 new work was published in Sunday Miscellany 2023-2025 (New Island), Poetry Ireland Review, Belfast Review and Crannóg. She facilitates Portumna Pen Pushers and is artistic adviser to Shorelines Arts Festival. In Autumn 2025, she was awarded a Galway Co Council residency at Interface, Connemara and in 2026, she will collaborate with sculptor Cathal McCarthy on an installation in Strokestown.
Lough Derg SingersThe Lough Derg Singers started in the beginning of the Millennium, when a few people who loved to sing, gathered together once a week, in a tiny room in Whitegate.
Numbers in our group are always fluctuating. Folks requiring reading glasses has increased, whilst the teeth and hair (and some say brain cells) have decreased. The one constant is our love of singing, and especially our love of singing together.
Our repertoire consists of Church music, Madrigals, rounds and folk music from around the world.
We sing mainly in four voices, although this can sometimes sound more like fourteen. The [hard at times] process of getting us from fourteen to four is left to our choirmaster, Froukje Powell, (MA in Community music)
We sing for fun, and for the pleasure of creating something beautiful as a group, which brings great moments of fulfilment and joy
